The University of Cambridge is hiring a senior software engineer to lead development on a pioneering crowdsourced web project designed to support and promote corporate transparency.

Wikirate.org is being built with Wagn, an open-source Ruby platform that supports creating structured data from wiki-inspired building blocks.  You will work directly with the Wagn team to refine the platform and its soon-to-be-released API and to develop a host of custom modules for wikirate.org.  All created work will be free and open-source under GPL version 2.

The Wikirate team embraces an agile development philosophy designed to maximize productivity and responsiveness and minimize overhead. We are seeking a passionate, self-motivated, team-oriented engineer capable of producing elegant technical solutions within the context of a dynamic international community.

The Wikirate Project is funded by a three-year grant from the European Commission to an international consortium with partners in the UK, Germany, Greece, Italy, and the US.  Your position will involve occasional international travel (approximately twice a year) to meet and collaborate with consortium partners.

Wikirate’s vision is to build the world’s largest and most-trusted source of information about how companies affect people, and to see this data used in ways that improve businesses’ accountability, transparency, and sustainability.

Wikirate.org contributors will submit and summarize claims about companies’ impact on society and the environment.  Claims will cite sources ranging from first party corporate representatives to traditional media to individual bloggers.  Your central challenge as a leader of the development team will be building technical mechanisms for channelling the contributions of a diverse community into robust, reliable, reusable data.
