The University of Cambridge is hiring a user experience specialist to lead in the design and implementation of the front end of a pioneering crowdsourced web project designed to support and promote corporate transparency.

The Wikirate Project is funded by a three-year grant from the European Commission to an international consortium with partners in the UK, Germany, Greece, Italy, and the US.  Your position will involve occasional international travel (approximately twice a year) to meet and collaborate with consortium partners.

Wikirate’s vision is to build the world’s largest and most-trusted source of information about how companies affect people, and to see this data used in ways that improve businesses’ accountability, transparency, and sustainability.

Wikirate.org contributors will submit and summarize claims about companies’ impact on society and the environment.  Claims will cite sources ranging from first party corporate representatives to traditional media to individual bloggers.  Your central challenge as a leader of the design team will be building technical mechanisms for channelling the contributions of a diverse community into robust, reliable, reusable data.

Wikirate.org will be developed on Wagn, an open-source wiki platform for collaboratively editing structured data. You will be designing for the enhanced experience of many kinds of users, from passive readers to content editors to those learning to administer the web tools.

This position sits at the intersection of an extensive research team developing relevant user personas and scenarios and an excellent technical team developing innovative software.  Your work will entail connecting the dots by designing and implementing interface and interaction patterns that insure rich and rewarding user experiences for a diverse online community.

We are seeking a passionate, self-motivated, team-oriented designer/developer capable of producing elegant solutions within the context of a dynamic international community.
