Hiya.  If you need my help with a Wagn issue, please add a Support Ticket so other community members can see/join the discussion.  If you just want to talk smack, smack it here :)

Hi Ethan, I found your page here from a link on a discussion section somewhere else on the site. It looks like you contribute software development to the project. Are you the primary tech lead/software contributor? I am also a software developer, although lately have been becoming a generalist. (I also happened to live in Charlotte, NC for 3 years for my first job out of college - fun, diverse city).
Anyway, I recently discovered Wagn and got very excited learning about its design. The flexible, atomic CMS/card data structure really intrigued me. I have recently co-founded a nonprofit organization based on creating community and am currently helping design community management software for it. I am always on the lookout for new tools to use and learn from. I am considering using Wagn for some of our Project/team management and Wiki needs. Ideally I would like to pick a platform that is fully-featured and/or highly extensible, and that has a strong community base. I believe with the card structure it is fairly extensible. However I didn't notice too much development/community activity lately. Is the project still actively being developed? Could you tell me the current state of the project and team working on it? I saw some mention of future plans and upgrades on the site. Are those still actively pursued?

Thank you,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I'm in the middle of moving from Colorado to Pennsylvania this week, so I hope you'll forgive my short answers:

- I'm Wagn's lead architect and the cofounder of the nonprofit behind Wagn. At this point am doing less coding than others, especially our lead developer Philipp Kuehl. We also have 2-3 very generous volunteer coders who have made immense contributions to the codebase.
- The project is definitely very active, though the Wagn.org website has gotten a bit less attention lately. We've released new gem versions twice this month, and the codebase is improving rapidly.
- Much of the Wagn community is currently focusing efforts on WikiRate.org, a Wagn-based website funded by the European Commission. This includes two full-time developers at Cambridge University who make extensive contributions to the Wagn core as well as driving an intensive implementation that pushes Wagn design and optimization.
- We'll be renaming "Wagn" to "Decko" soon, and there will be a major push to update the site (will be decko.org) and to build a lot more community. We expect the community will expand pretty dramatically in 2017.
- Wagn is definitely highly extensible. In fact, we've come to think of it more as a development framework than an extensible app. I expect to produce a lot of documentation about the mod API this summer, because enhancing the API has been a major priority in recent months.

In a couple of weeks, when I'm settled into my new home, I'd be interested in hearing more about what you're up to and whether Wagn could help!

Ethan,
Thank you very much for your response; it was very informative. There is plenty of material and repo code to look through so I'm looking forward to delving deeper into that. I will also look into WikiRate some more to see how it utilizes Wagn.

Good luck with your move! I'm looking forward to engaging more later.

Thank you,
Andrew
