Is this a cloudstore installation or one on your own local machine? Also, what browser / OS are you uploading from?

 

I'll have to refer to the Paperclip library to be sure which filetypes are currently supported, but I know jpgs, gifs, and pngs are all ok. I would recommend trying one of those to see whether it's working.

 

the default max upload size is 5 megs.
