howto text 4
Sets and Settings
(on Setting card)
Like everything else on Wagn, configuration is done with cards. For example, to change the logo, you edit this "star logo" card.
(open card, click edit)
Settings cards are special configuration cards that can apply to any Set of cards, which can be as general as "all cards", as specific as a single card, or somewhere in between.
(scroll down slowly)
For example, the help text settings configure the prompts that users will see when adding or editing cards. Let's add some help text to the logo card. To do so, go to Options, then Settings.
(do so)
Here you can see a list of settings that apply to the logo card. Looking at "edit help" setting, we see it is not configured, so we don't see any help text when we edit the logo card.
Opening the setting, we see that we can add help text that applies to three different "sets" of cards: just the logo card, all image cards, or all cards. For now, let's just add help text for the logo card. Notice that more specific settings are listed first, and they take precedence over more general settings.
(add "upload an image to change the logo")
Now if you click to edit the logo, you will see this help text.
Some of the most powerful settings are the formatting settings.
(scroll down)
In the previous video we created a "how to fix printer" card and a "how to" cardtype. With formatting, you can make all howto cards use the same format as our "how to fix printer card."
(click to how to fix printer)
To do so, first copy the content from the "how to fix printer" card
(do so)
Then go back to options, then settings, and open the "content" setting. Again you have three sets to choose from; this time we want to format all howto cards. Click to add that setting, and paste in the content.
(do so)
Now, when you edit "how to fix printer", it automatically offers a web form rather than the inclusion syntax.
(show)
If we add more "how to" cards, they will use the same format. For example, let's change our "how to fix fax" to be a "how to" card.
(do so)
Now it has the same format. When you click "+picture", you can set the type to "Image", but it would be much better if it were set to default to an image card. There are multiple ways to do this. One is to edit the content setting, which we can now access through this card's option tab.
(add type:Image and type:File)
Now when we click to add +picture, it defaults to an image card.
(show)
And if we click to create a new "How To" card, it will also use the correct default.
So we've now created a simple web form that lets users add a structured how to document without having to learn any syntax.
