generally speaking, we've worked pretty hard to get rid of that stuff in most places. Most users (readers/editors) don't need/want it. As you say, the ones who might want it are wagneers, so we need a wagneer-specific solution.
I suspect the answer will be to make it so that you can add extra fields via the menu, which needs attention for new cards.
Fwiw, editing the name is there when you don't have a name; if you do there is some sort of uri support for that (name_prompt or something). Editing the type is available for simple cards, but not compound cards (in which case the wagneer is supposed to have set that up for you).
I think the issue is that there is no gear menu in this case. I guess if an editor wants this sort of feature, they're a beginning Wagneer.
The use case that is a technique that ordinary editors might discover is to insert a link to a card to be defined later, so I go [[some concept to define,]], and when I save, there is a missing link, but same thing with an inclusion with an 'Add missing' link. I want to use the inflection in context, but when I create the card, I want to save it initially with the right inflection. I don't even want them to change it outside the same key equivalent space. I can also code it [[Some Concept to Define|some concept to define,]], but I'm not sure that would actually do what I want.
Of course the real solution for editors is a better link edit UI.
we've had a gear menu before for new cards and we'll have it again. just needs design.
The link and nest editors are supposed to get attention in December.
