can't edit in Firefox 2

On a Windows XP machine. Bunch of warnings when loading the page, then clicking on Edit does nothing, and shows:
element.dispatchEvent is not a function

Hmm, we should try to reproduce this on another Firefox 2 instance (could be something weird about this box or browser). That error makes it sound like it's not loading a core js library or something...
can we reproduce this?
