improve interface around content view inclusions+issues

For cards that are included in content view:

A way - besides double-clicking - to edit them. Comes up when the included card itself has no normal text to double-click on - e.g. it's a file or image, or its content is exclusively inclusions of other cards.

Also see add setting for edit controls.

Make the gray arrow icon, and an Edit link appear when your cursor is over an inclusion?

You can get to card's page now from edit mode. (Kinda kluge though — "Go to edit!? But i'm not wanting to edit it...") --John

also want to make sure that content defaults to inline and that search and pointer items default to having their own line. may be other tickets, but this is related -- good holder spot.

I just noticed some behavior on Wagn that is undoubtedly intentional, but was rather disconcerting; not something I can't deal with, but something that might be very confusing for new users.

I triple-clicked on a paragraph, intending to select it, copy it, and paste it into an email. But instead, the third click pushed me into an "edit" window. (I was not logged in.)

I guess if it was up to me, I'd make "triple-click to edit" an option in user preferences, turned off by default.

This is on by default on purpose, since it's the only way to edit (or get to the other tabs) of cards that are included without the surrounding card interface. Hopefully with this ticket we can design a better way of doing things so that we can default double-click-to-edit off.

Possible solution: add an edit icon by the current "Edit" text/link in the upper-right of each card. Then show just the edit icon (where?) whenever hovering over an inclusion.

An additional possibility (we want a visible interface in any case) is key commands for save and edit as a non-double-click way to edit cards. For this to be useful, the key command for edit would have to bring up an interface to choose whether to edit the main card of the page, or one of the included cards. This interface would have to be pretty speedy to be useful.

These are great options. I'm excited about exploring them but not about making an interface change of this significance right before 1.0, particularly with so many other pressing priorities. Let's move this off and move our content view concerns over to keep display inline on one line

Since 1.0 we've had complaints on twitter about "double-click anywhere and you get an error"

Not really seeing why making double-click optional depends on doing this first, so created add setting for edit controls.

I think we do need to address the issue of inline editing but should be very careful not to add interface where it isn't wanted. Already I feel the bigger need is a way to get rid of extra interface in Pointers et al.

I'm guessing this is all going to be wrapped up together in creating the new setting discussed in this ticket: make simple edit-alternative to double click. Closing this as a duplicate. (but will move some ideas over)
