make edit view visible to users with view permission
Ticket
+solution
Make the editor viewable but unsaveable (no Submit button?) if you have view but not edit permissions.
medium pri? it affects documentation for people who are not signed in
It looks to me like this is just an issue with the inclusion refactor and should be on that ticket. Looks fine here: http://www.wagn.org/wagn/custom_layouts

what I mean by that is that, for the moment, any bug that is showing up on ang but not pinz is probably a newly introduced one, so we should wrap it in to that ticket until we know it's a big enough deal to break off on its own. Awesome that you're finding these things before we go live with them!!!

It is a problem on pinz - try signing out and going to http://www.wagn.org/wagn/Blue+CSS+include_in_edit_view
I'm not sure why http://www.wagn.org/wagn/custom_layouts is working.

Hmm, evidently because we made it so "anyone" can edit Default Layout Copy.
Now that I think about it, we might want to think twice about allowing anyone to see it in that mode, since, in the long run, we want "edit" view to be an actual saveable editor. Maybe we make another view? Maybe we plan to make the editor viewable but unsaveable if you have view but not edit permissions?

I think we should think out some use cases to be sure, but that latter solution feels right - ideally just don't show the Submit button if they don't have edit permission. We're using it now to let people see things they can't edit, but if they do have permission, then offhand it seems okay that a Submit button would be there.
You must have run into this issue before and created the Copy so it could safely be editable. Unfortunately that means it can get out of date. (I checked now and it's the same as the live one.)

rename to "make edit view visible to users with view permission" ?

sounds good.

Note: make custom layouts reference Classic Layout instead when this is done.

I now think this should be a new :editor view, which gels very well with the refactors gerry is doing (and it means that on cards like that someone with permissions won't ever see the edit buttons)
--Ethan McCutchen.....Fri Feb 18 10:23:33 -0800 2011
so, add new :editor view?
--John Abbe.....Fri Feb 18 10:25:09 -0800 2011
yup!

Seems like we do this dance a lot. Would smooth things a bit if when there is something you want ticketed, you named it and marked it up as a link, even if you don't want to take the time to add the card.
--John Abbe.....Fri Feb 18 17:06:54 -0800 2011
ok, sounds good.

Waiting on error changing permissions in 1.8 to test.

(done)

you should need *read permissions for editor and *update for edit / new.
